Unity Council Town Hall Meeting (Budget Deficit, Bill 124)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I would like to update you on the efforts that Unity Council has been making to influence Queen’s University to re-open wage negotiations.

BUDGET DEFICIT & HIRING FREEZE

After the university’s announcement on May 18, 2023, addressing a $62.8 million dollar operating budget deficit and the imposed hiring freeze for positions funded by the operating budget, Unity Council requested a meeting with senior leadership.

WE SAT DOWN WITH SENIOR LEADERSHIP

We met with Teri Shearer, Interim Provost/VP (Academic), and Donna Janiec, VP (Finance and Administration), on May 31, 2023.

MOVING FORWARD COLLECTIVELY

Unity Council met this week to discuss how we move forward collectively.

ONLINE TOWN HALL TOMORROW 

The Council has now scheduled a joint Town Hall meeting to discuss the operating budget deficit, hiring freeze, details of meeting with senior leadership, and Bill 124 impacts.
